Questions people ask

What does a trustee actually do?

Microburn's trustees are the people legally responsible for the organisation. They set the direction, look after the money, make sure the burn stays on the right side of the law, and answer to the members. It's a volunteer role — nobody gets paid.

How are trustees chosen?

They're elected by the members at a general meeting. Any active member can stand, and every member gets a vote. Elections use a secret ballot so nobody has to justify their choice.

How long does a trustee serve?

Up to three years. Terms end at the third AGM after the one that elected them, and a trustee can stand again if members want them back.

Can I stand for the board?

If you're an active member, yes. You'll need a proposer and a seconder from the membership, and there's an eligibility check before your name goes on the ballot. When a general meeting with elections is announced, you'll see a link to start the process.

Can a trustee be removed?

Yes. Members can vote to remove a trustee at any general meeting by passing an ordinary resolution. A trustee can also resign at any time.

Are trustees' names public?

Yes. Being a trustee is a public legal role — their names appear here and, for UK companies, on the Companies House register.
