Safe tool use, vehicle permissions, key sign-out and keeping radios charged.
2026 handbook · edition reference. These are the supplied DPW arrangements for May 2026. Dates, contacts, vehicles and facilities should be confirmed before reusing them for another edition.
2026 handbook: 5 mph for every vehicle on site. The older DPW & Event Vehicles Policy reference gives 10 mph for build and strike. This page retains the newer handbook’s 5 mph instruction and flags the conflict for policy-owner review.
Tools and machinery
Site vehicles
Because we are a small event, we only have a few communal Nest owned tools. Some tools we hire in, some tools belong to your fellow DPWs. Please bring any tools or PPE you might need, and make sure you label them. Please make sure if you borrow a tool, that you bring it straight back when you are not using it. Please treat the tools kindly and don’t use them if you haven’t been shown how to use them safely!
We have 2x Kubotas as our site vehicles, as well as our usual Transit van + Lutons. The latter two may only be driven by named drivers on the Nest insurance, and will be used for missions to the container and off-site. Drivers will need to be inducted before they can drive the Kubotas; only inducted drivers will be allowed to drive these. They cannot be driven outside of the Nest site grounds. There is a designated site vehicle parking area at Production where these vehicles must be parked when not in use.
All vehicle keys will live at Production and must be signed in and out.
A strict 5mph speed limit applies on site to all vehicles, not just Nest site vehicles.
We use site radios to communicate. These must go back to Production to be charged at the end of every day - swap your battery regularly, especially if you’re on Temple Crew. We aim to have each team with at least one radio so that we can easily request vehicles/fluffing/extra hands when all hands on deck tasks arise. Radio etiquette will be communicated in morning meetings.
Adapted from DPW Handbook 2026.docx. The original welcomes returning crew and first-time volunteers; everyone is asked to read the handbook because build and strike change each year.
