Packing list

Anyone

What to bring to Burning Nest, and what to leave at home.

Not sure what to bring? Here's what we suggest.

Your ticket

The site has very little phone signal, so print your ticket or save a screenshot of it on your phone before you set off. It makes things much quicker at the Gate.

Photo ID

Bring photo ID. The name on it must match the name on your ticket, and the Gate will check one against the other. We also have a duty of care to make sure under-18s aren't drinking alcohol, and may ask to see ID if we're unsure.

Food and drink

Bring all the food and drink you'll need for the event, somewhere to store it, and anything you need to cook with. Cooking is allowed in Free Camping. Fires are allowed in raised fire pits only.

Drinks. There are no vendors on site, so bring your own soft drinks and alcohol. It's worth bringing extra to gift to a theme camp bar.

Water. There are drinking water taps around the site. Bring a large container to fill up and keep at your camp, and a smaller bottle to carry with you during the day. A trolley or cart makes moving big water containers much easier.

Non-biodegradable soap and chemicals aren't allowed anywhere on site.

Cooking kit.

  • Water containers
  • Pots and pans
  • Kettle
  • Biodegradable washing-up liquid and a scrubber
  • Portable stove and gas
  • BBQ
  • Snacks
  • Storage containers

Plate, cutlery and cup. Theme camps that gift food or drink will expect you to bring your own plate, bowl or cup. Clip your cup to yourself with a carabiner so you don't lose it.

Bin bags. Bring enough bags for both rubbish and recycling. Take responsibility for your own mess and set a good example to others. The Leave a Better Trace guidance has more.

Smoking. If you smoke, carry a portable ashtray and use it, and be considerate of the people around you. Smoking isn't allowed in any enclosed space.

Sleeping

  • Tent
  • Sleeping mat or air mattress
  • Bedding: a sheet and duvet, or a sleeping bag
  • Pillows and pillowcases
  • Things to decorate or theme your space

Toiletries

  • Toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Soap and shampoo
  • Lip balm
  • Sunscreen
  • Towels
  • Toilet roll
  • Condoms
  • Period products
  • Prescription medication
  • Contact lenses
  • First aid kit

Every soap you use on site must be biodegradable, toothpaste included. If you bring wet wipes, put them in the general rubbish. Reusable period products, such as a menstrual cup, are worth considering.

Clothes

Nights can get cold, days can be hot, and there may be rain and mud.

  • Coats, jackets and gloves, for warmth and for show
  • Hats and sunglasses
  • Waterproofs and wellies
  • A bag to carry your things around during the day
  • Costumes and anything else fun

At the very least you need a torch or head torch so people can see you at night. EL wire, flashing lights and glow bling all help too.

Loose glitter and badly glued feathers aren't allowed at Nest, even the biodegradable kind.

Gifting

Anything you'd like to share: skills and services, keepsakes, food and drink, art, music.

Other useful things

  • Umbrella
  • Foam earplugs
  • Torches and lanterns
  • Camp chairs, inflatable furniture or a hammock
  • Battery packs for your electronics
  • Utility belt or bumbag
  • Solar lights

Please don't bring

Anything illegal. Nest may feel like another world, but the law still applies. If it's illegal off site, don't bring it.

Pets. The landowner has asked that pets aren't brought to Burning Nest. Assistance dogs are different: see Assistance dogs: gate and on-site procedure.

Anything else on this list. Fireworks, drones, bikes, scooters and e-scooters, unless they're part of an approved project.
